What Is Saddle-Stitch Binding?

Saddle stitch binding is a classic and highly efficient binding method. Printed sheets are folded in half, nested inside one another, and secured along the fold (or spine) with two or three metal staples, or, in some cases, stitched wire.

The name comes from the production process: the folded pages rest over a saddle-shaped support while the staples are driven through the spine. The result is a lightweight book with a clean, professional finish and minimal bulk.
